When we decided to elope, our expectations (when it came to finding an officiant and photographer) did not include anything close to the level of expertise we experienced with Shawn and Erica. It’s impossible to describe, except to say that they put such beautiful human touches on so many moments. We are extremely grateful to have been joined by Shawn and Erica on this day!

Our parents thought we were crazy when we said we wanted to fly Shawn up to Powell River to officiate our wedding. Within moments of Shawn running through the rehearsal, they understood why and were happy we did! Shawn was DEFINITELY the highlight of our day! The ceremony was more than we could have imagined or even come close to constructing ourselves. Thank you so much for being a part of our wedding, Shawn. You are doing amazing work and our only hope is that you’re still around in 10 years to renew our vows (hopefully next time in Hawaii).

YH&M: The best in the industry!

Shawn was incredible to work with and we cannot recommend him and Young Hip & Married enough! Shawn was the very first vendor we booked (about a year and a half in advance) before a dress, flowers, coordinator, or anything else. I had seen him in action at another wedding and knew he was the perfect person to marry us. Right from our initial meeting, Shawn made us so at ease and we felt like old friends just catching up over donuts at Cartems. He took real time to get to know us and ask meaningful questions. The process leading up to the wedding was fun and easy.

Shawn walked us through our rehearsal and calmed our nerves. On the day of the wedding, the ceremony he delivered for us was personalized, eloquent, meaningful, romantic, lighthearted, and fun all at once. It perfectly captured the essence of “us” in a way that even we couldn’t have put into words.

Our guests were also blown away! We had more than a few people ask us how long we had known each other, thinking that we were lifelong friends since he captured us and our story so well. My personal favourite comment from a guest was “his voice spoke to my soul.” Shawn indeed has a unique brand of gravitas mixed with humour, authenticity, and a genuine love for LOVE!

From the very first day we met Shawn, we knew our ceremony was going to be prefect! He listened and understood what we wanted and made it so personal. He was patient with us on editing the draft and was super helpful at explaining why he did certain things, but changed it if we wanted to. Yes, they are more expensive than a government marriage commissioner, but it is well worth it. All my guests said they LOVED the ceremony (and so did we)!!!!

Shawn was amazing! He was so charismatic and easy to talk to about our ceremony. Shawn helped guide us through what we believed to be the most anxious part of the day and honestly it became not only the funniest but most memorable. (To be fair I think Shawn won’t forget this day either!) I can’t express how much I recommend this company. From the first email to the wedding itself and everything in between, they have been friendly, helpful and all around amazing. Shawn did an amazing job with our ceremony! During the rehearsal he was knowledgable about the ceremony space, and left no details to chance. Everyone I talked to at our wedding said the ceremony represented us perfectly! Overall a great experience!!!

From initial contact with Rebecca and onto our officiant, Shawn, and photographer, Erica, we felt welcomed and relaxed with the whole process! We really wanted it to feel like an intimate, elopement-style wedding but it ended up being so much more. Our location at the Nitobe Gardens felt really special, and the arrival of the team calmed down our nerves and helped us really focus on the moment between just the two of us. We had so many compliments from our guests on how wonderful and impressive Shawn was! As we didn’t know the script beyond our own vows, it ended up being very beautiful and customized based on us! After the ceremony, Erica did a great job helping us round everyone up for group photos. She also was very personable and does her job with ease! When my husband and I started to think about what we wanted out of our wedding ceremony we thought about how we wanted our guests to feel like they were involved in the ceremony. During the actual ceremony he organized our guests and seating arrangements with our photographer before the ceremony began which was extremely helpful. I would highly recommend choosing Shawn to officiate your wedding! He was so personable and relaxed, yet super professional at the same time; it’s clear he has done this many times before. I was especially grateful for this at our wedding rehearsal, where I was feeling a bit lost and nervous about our upcoming ceremony. Shawn came in and, in tandem with our week-of wedding coordinator (who he knew because he knows many people in this industry! Definitely a huge benefit.), totally took charge and told us exactly what we needed to do. I also appreciated Shawn’s words of encouragement, shared quietly with us in free moments, during the actual ceremony itself.

Speaking of the ceremony, Shawn delivered a heartfelt and nicely-written speech. He delivered it like a family friend- and several guests thought we’d known him for a long time. While Shawn provided the bulk of the writing, he encouraged us to change, add, or subtract anything we felt necessary. Although it is never a comfortable feeling being critical of a person’s work, my partner and I felt that Shawn truly wanted our honest feedback. And, as a result, people loved our ceremony and felt like it suited us perfectly.

The last thing I’d like to say is, Shawn is passionate about relationships and the people within them. We could tell from the outset that Shawn was a different personality type from either of us; but, just as you make friends who are different from you, it is absolutely possible to have the same thing in your wedding officiant. I didn’t know that until we met Shawn and decided that he would be a good match for us (and vice versa). We are so glad that we made the right choice!

We were completely thrilled to learn Shawn would officiate our wedding when we first contacted Young Hip and Married! My fiancé and I knew we wanted something a little different, more personal and completely unique for our ceremony and Shawn definitely delivered! The best decision I have ever made was to get married. The second best decision ever was using Young Hip and Married. Erica, Shawn, and staff were all very helpful, efficient, and super friendly. Shawn officiated our wedding and we couldn’t be more thrilled. We had chosen to go with YHM due to the wide selection of officiants to choose from, and we found one that suited the theme/vibe we were going for. Unfortunately, a few months before the wedding, something came up and the officiant we chose was unable to do our wedding. We were disappointed and wondering whether we had made a mistake (spoiler alert – we hadn’t). Shawn reached out to us immediately, apologized, and offered to find a suitable replacement, or officiate our wedding himself. At first we were apprehensive as we really connected with our original choice, but Shawn met with us in person and quickly put us at ease that everything would only be done with our approval of the finished product/script. From that point forward, Shawn worked very closely with us and our feedback, and we went through various iterations of our final wedding ceremony. He even helped us with our vows. On the day, Shawn delivered in spades – A true pro. He was very well prepared, without sounding too rehearsed, and he struck the right tone that we were going for. We received several compliments from guests after the ceremony on how awesome the officiating was – Authentic, sweet, and engaging, while keeping the focus squarely on the bride and groom. All of our interactions with Young Hip & Married were very pleasant! Firstly, they were able to help us arrange our small marriage with just a few weeks notice, and secondly made everything we needed to do very clear in advance despite not actually meeting with our officiant (Shawn) until the day of our marriage due to the expedited arrangements we had made. We were provided with a sample of how the ceremony would go as well as opportunities to tailor things here and there to our wishes. Not being sure of what exactly was involved in terms of formalities and administrative things surrounding getting married, it was so very helpful to have all of the guidance that was provided. Shawn’s wife Erica was our photographer, and they both arrived precisely when they said they would! Right away they were very friendly and comforting to have with us. While our ceremony was small, it went exactly as we had hoped it would go. Despite having only spoken over the phone and by email, Shawn had prepared some words for the day that seemed to suit us perfectly. Erica’s photography was great! We love the photos that she took of us and our guests. She did a great job at mixing the scenery into the shots. Perfect for our forested garden location! All of our guests have complemented the ceremony itself and appreciated the friendliness they presented. Thank you both, and thanks also to Tara for helping to set things up for us!

Shawn was the officiant at our October 2020 wedding. As a more mature couple, we had certain ideas as to what we wanted our ceremony to look like! We had seen Shawn at our friends’ wedding and liked him. As well we had been at another wedding where another member of the YH&M team was the officiant and she was great! Our first meeting with Shawn from Young Hip & Married confirmed that we were working with a caring and professional officiant. We went with the Rocking Wedding package and were so happy with the level of detail and the way that our personal story was told throughout the ceremony. Shawn was easy to get a hold of and always responded quickly to our questions. Our wedding hit a major hiccup when our venue was vandalized and we had to find a new location for our ceremony and reception. Shawn did everything to make sure that his part in our wedding caused no additional stress. He was flexible with the location and timeline for the day, assured us that he would adjust his intro to suit our new location, and took in stride that our wedding took place outside in a downpour of rain. Our ceremony went smoothly, beautifully, and was so meaningful to us both! We couldn’t recommend Shawn more!

We had Shawn as our officiant. Shawn was awesome – we loved the ceremony draft he made for us and he really made the day about my husband and I. Our family mentioned that Shawn did a phenomenal job and they really enjoyed his personality. Some family members even said they wish they had somebody like him for their wedding. Shawn helped us with our vows. When he double booked himself he apologised and sent a co-worker in his place for the rehearsal. Shawn’s coworker Denise did so good and was so helpful. The company is awesome and has many choices for officiants and we loved how they personalized everything around my husband and I. Definitely recommend them.

We didn’t want a typical wedding set up so Shawn helped orchestrate a circular wedding for us. It was perfect in every way!! He really kept us calm and relaxed so we could enjoy every moment of our ceremony.

We had a very quick elopement (15min + 45min photo shoot) on a local beach outside of Vancouver. Shawn, our officiant, and Erica the photographer were awesome. Our friends recommend YH&M to us. We were very excited to work with Shawn after reading his bio. We wanted our ceremony to be intimate, authentic, and as stress free as possible. We went with the sweet and simple package + rehearsal. Shawn made us feel very comfortable during our initial zoom call, rehearsal, and actual wedding ceremony! He is experienced and knows exactly how the flow of the ceremony should be and small details like how we should be standing. The complimentary vows course was so so so helpful. I first connected with Young Hip and Married in August 2019 to book the Helicopter Elopement Package for April 8, 2020. I was floored with their quick response even though my date was still 8 months away! During the unraveling of Covid-19, our communication remained impeccable during such a stressing time; we were given weekly updates up until our province lockdown and we had to postpone with SKY Helicopters. Because we had no clue when life would resume to normal again, Shawn (our officiant) was determined to still make our special day happen since the date was sentimental to us. We were so touched! We followed the strict social distancing protocols and his words were so personalized and touching, I happy-cried throughout the whole ceremony. Also, our photographer, Erica Miller, offered a complimentary photography session which was awesome! We are so grateful for the commitment and hard work Young Hip and Married showed us, especially during this crazy time we’re all going though.

Young Hip and Married had already been recommended to us for their amazing officiants, but when we decided to elope this summer, we chose an elopement and photography package and couldn’t have been happier. We knew we wanted a mountaintop elopement, and were open to a hike, but didn’t have a specific location in mind.
