As a follow up to our awesome Officiant Q & A series, we wanted to introduce you to some more of the Young Hip & Married team. While our officiants are representing on the frontlines, we have a small and mighty staff team working magic behind the scenes to make sure every Elopement and Rockin Wedding comes together.
Next up, a Q & A with our Customer Relations Rockstar, Jackie-Deane!
Introduce yourself. Who is Jackie-Deane?
Hey! I am Jackie-Deane, Jax or JD to my friends and family, and I am one of the Customer Relations Rockstars at Young Hip & Married.
What do you do at YH&M?
I am one of the first points of contact for couples when they reach out to us. I make sure that they have all the information they need and do my best to make sure they are supported through the process of booking an officiant.
How long have you worked with YH&M?
I am just coming up on a cool quarter of a year but looking forward to really establishing myself with this amazing team!
What does a typical day at YH&M look like for you?
I spend a lot of my work day staying up to date with our couples, officiants, and staff. This means emails, phone calls, and the occasional Skype chat.
What is your favourite part of your job?
I love having the responsibility of assuring couples that they are in good hands. A lot of the people who contact us feel overwhelmed and do not really know where to start; guiding them through the process is such a fun process!
How did you get into this work?
I have worked in events, predominantly weddings, on and off for a long time. One of my good friends, Beth, whose wedding was the first one I ever planned and who happens to be one of our awesome officiants, told me that YH&M was looking for a part time Customer Relations Rockstar. I knew before I even applied that it would be a great fit for me.
Share a favourite YH&M story with us!
My story reservoir is growing and I imagine that in a year from now I will have countless stories to tell. But I can gladly say that this first chapter at YH&M has been one for the books. The team has welcomed me with such warmth and trust and it has been a gift to get to work along such intentional, creative, and brilliant people!
What is your favourite part of a wedding?
Weddings are a celebration from beginning to end. And to be honest, I love it all — the ceremony, the cocktail hour, the dancing, and all of the speeches (the good, the bad, and the terrible). No matter the wedding though, one thing always stands out to me, and that is the community. The coming together of people, the tangible love, care and exuberant joy of families and friends sending two people off into the beginning of their own story, has me in tears EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!
When you’re not working at YH&M, what are you getting up to?
I spend a lot of time (and a lot of money) in coffee shops and vintage stores. When I am trying to curb my bad spending habits, you can find me in the backyard with my housemates, or out dancing with my friends. As an extravert, I find it hard to spend literally any time alone so when I am not working, I’m with my buds.
Share a fun fact about yourself!
I love R&B, Hip-Hop, and Rap. I pretend like I grew up in the 90’s next door to Queen Latifah, but in all honesty, I was a small child for most of it…and grew up in East Van. But that’s not my fault.
What’s one thing you would like YH&M couples to know about your job?
I think that the customer service industry is lacking kindness and compassion. Through my job at YH&M, I hope that I can meet couples with warmth and patience and give them a level of service that they may not always receive elsewhere. From the moment they contact us to the day that they say their “I do’s,” my hope is that they feel seen and supported.
Thanks so much for taking part in this interview, Jackie-Deane. And an even bigger thank you for all of the amazing work you do with our couples! We are so excited to have you on the team!
