As a follow up to our awesome Officiant Q & A series, we wanted to introduce you to some more of the Young Hip & Married team. While our officiants are representing on the frontlines, we have a small and mighty staff team working magic behind the scenes to make sure every Elopement and Rockin Wedding comes together.
First up, a Q & A with our Social Media Maven and Writer, Riana!
Introduce yourself. Who is Riana?
My name is Riana and I work remotely in social media, writing and travel. I’m currently based in Vancouver and live with my partner, Colin, and our dog, Ellie. But in June, we’re actually packing up to move to Prague for a year! But don’t worry, I’ll still be working for YH&M 🙂
What do you do at YH&M?
My role at YH&M is Social Media Maven (how great is that title?). I’m responsible for the social channels of Young Hip & Married, mainly on Facebook and Instagram, posting and engaging with our awesome audience. I’m also a writer with YH&M and write the weekly blog posts as well as other copy for the website. And I do a bit of work on the invoice side, helping couples finalize their details and complete payments.
How long have you worked with YH&M?
I started working with YH&M in February 2017.
What does a typical day at YH&M look like for you?
One of my favourite parts about the work I do with YH&M is that it looks different every single day. But typically, I’ll start the day by checking email and responding to couples, officiants and other members of the admin team. I then do some work on the invoice side of things. Depending on the day, I may spend some time writing up a new blog post, sending out reminders or publishing new photos to our Google page. And I’m always checking in on social media!
What is your favourite part of your job?
It’s hard to pick just one thing! I love that I get to spend most of my day looking at gorgeous wedding photos that I’m adding to blog posts or sharing on social media. I also love how progressive YH&M is and that we challenge ourselves to do better and break down some of the negative stereotypes in the wedding industry. And lastly, I really love the amazing people I get to work with every day.
How did you get into this work?
My role with Young Hip & Married was actually one of the first jobs that I got when I transitioned from office work to full-time remote freelance work. I’ve always been a writer and very interested in social media. With YH&M, I’m able to pursue both of those passions while also using my organization skills and attention to detail.
Share a favourite work story with us!
One of my favourite things is when couples connect with us on social media. I love posting wedding photos and getting a comment from the couple, so excited to see their photos on our account. I also love when couples send us messages on social media and I’m able to be right there and respond to them in real time.
If you were getting married, what would you want in your ceremony?
I truly believe that the ceremony is the most important part of the wedding. For my wedding, I really want to priortize the ceremony and spend time writing personal vows and choosing words that mean something to my relationship.
When you’re not working at YH&M, what are you getting up to?
I have a number of other clients in social media, writing and travel planning that I work with in addition to YH&M. When I’m not working, I can be found walking my dog, eating poke bowls and watching Netflix on the couch with my partner, or planning my next trip over at Teaspoon of Adventure.
Share a fun fact about yourself!
I saw Charlie’s Angels (the movie that came out in 2000) 11 times in theatres when I was a kid. I was obsessed! Besides my horrible childhood taste in movies, another fun fact is that I have travelled to 36 countries on six continents and can’t wait to hit 100 countries and make it to Antarctica one day!
What one thing would you like YH&M couples to know?
I’d love to interact with you on social media more! In my role on the staff team, I don’t get to interact with couples as much as I’m not booking weddings nor am I officiating. So I really value anytime someone reaches out on social media with a comment or message. It puts a huge smile on my face – so please drop by and say hi on Facebook or Instagram!
